CONFERENCES / PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
June 16, 2020
Dear KSWLA and FLAM members,
The FLAM and KSWLA Executive Boards would like to make you aware of changes to the Fall 2020 conference. In light of the current concerns related to the spread of COVID-19, the conference will take place virtually, with sessions and keynote available online. This was a difficult decision, but one we knew we had to make in the best interest of our memberships and the associations.
As teachers, we understand the difficulties of moving instruction online and supporting students through distance learning. KSWLA and FLAM are still committed to supporting our members with high quality professional development opportunities, and will embrace the spirit of flexibility and adaptability in our commitment.
For those of you who submitted a session proposal, thank you. The Executive Board of your organization will be in touch to see how you may still have the chance to share your expertise and ideas in the new format at your state conference.
For the Award and Grant recipients, congratulations again. The Executive Board of your association will be in touch to discuss how we can best recognize you for your excellence and commitment.
We appreciate your commitment to continued professional development, and look forward to “seeing” you in the Fall.
We wish you all a peaceful summer.
Amanda Williams, KSWLA President and Dr. Tonia Tinsley, FLAM President
NATIONAL & REGIONAL CONFERENCES
The ACTFL Annual Convention and World Languages Expo is where language educators from around the world come to meet! This global event brings together more than 7,000 language educators from all languages, levels, and assignments.
The ACTFL Board of Directors has voted to move this year’s Annual Convention from a face-to-face event to a virtual platform. This was not an easy decision. But in the end, we were not willing to risk the health and safety of our members, attendees, presenters, and staff due to the uncertainty related to coronavirus. It is still our goal to provide a comprehensive professional development experience that will have an impact on language educators at all levels of teaching and in turn help their students to succeed in their language learning process.
So instead, we will transform the convention to an online event that features the same great programming you’ve grown accustomed to, as well as some new features that we hope will impress. We are still excited to feature our three keynote speakers: John Quiñones, Erin Jones, and Nyle DiMarco. We will continue to offer high-quality sessions, electronic posters, and round tables. We’ll even have a virtual exhibit hall so you can “meet” with exhibitors during designated time slots. And best of all, the content will be on-demand until December 31, 2020.
