KATSP & WSU are proud to announce its First Spanish Language Competition on April 7th at the Rhatigan Student Center on the campus of Wichita State University. This event is open to all KS HS students. The competition will be a poetry recitation in which students will have a required, first round poem and a choice of a second round poem (if they advance past the first round).  We hope to have 50-100 student participants. Space is limited, so please register ASAP.


Please see the attached flyer for more information as well as the materials (poems, rubric) & registration (google form) located in this google folder: https://goo.gl/x62D0V  In addition to the competition, WSU will be giving campus tours while admissions will be giving out a swag bags with WSU goodies.  Lunch will be included in the registration fee.  The top-place finishers will receive a cash prize (amount tbd by KATSP board).

Join us April 21-23, 2017, at the Donaphin Lake Retreat and Conference Center in Excelsior Springs, MO. 

Thanks to Johnson County Community College and McGraw-Hill Publishing, the total cost of the retreat, which includes five meals, two nights lodging (double occupancy) and all activities at the Doniphan Lake Retreat & Conference Center, is only $70.00 (which is non-refundable). A private room option is available for a small additional cost. Space is limited to 24 participants. 

* Immerse yourself in Spanish throughout the retreat. 
* Maintain or improve your fluency with activities at Advanced and Superior ACTFL proficiency levels. 
* Meet other Spanish instructors and share ideas on teaching and life in general during informal conversations. 
* Watch and discuss a Hispanic movie and/or short videos. 
* Listen to Hispanic music and podcasts while enjoying the natural beauty of Heartland's rustic surroundings. 
* Sing and play traditional Hispanic games. 
* It is possible that non-credit hour learning experience points could be issued by the sponsoring school, contingent on district approval and consistency with the stated goals in the individual teacher's professional development plan. 

Transportation to/from Johnson County Community College and the Donaphin Conference and Retreat Center will be provided upon request.
