Sixteen exhibitors brought us everything from electronics to textbooks to jewelry. The schedule provided time to browse, shop, and visit with friends. Incoming Vice President Chuck Thorpe, got some tips from Jerry Smartt, who finished VP duties and became President.The VP is reponsible for scheduling sessions.
Sergei Shapoval performed his "Cultural Kaleidoscope" from Russian. Talented members of his accordion band were Karen Gudde and Nancy Heidebrecht. What a performance! Wanda Tilford (on left) was awarded Kansas Teacher of the Year. She teaches German at Bishop Caroll High School in Wichita. Presenting the award is Erin Joyce, KSWLA Past President.

Paul Sandrock

2006 ACTFL President

Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction

Paul Sandrock is the chief author of Planning Curriculum for Learning World Languages (2002) and co-author of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development's Curriculum Handbook for World Languages (2005). He received WAFLT's Distinguished Foreign Language Educator Award (1998) and the Prentice Hall/NCSSFL State Supervisor of the Year Award (2003). Recent work on assessment includes the standing committee for the Foreign Language National Assessment of Educational Progress and ACTFL's Integrated Performance Assessment project.

Sandrock holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Olaf College (English and Spanish, 1973) and a Master of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (Spanish and Curriculum & Instruction, 1981). He taught Spanish for 16 years, grades 7-12 in Appleton, WI, and since 1992 serves as consultant for world languages education at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (Madison, WI).

Paul has served as President of the National Council of State Supervisors of Foreign Languages (NCSSFL) and on the boards of the Wisconsin Association For Language Teachers (WAFLT), Central States Conference, Joint National Committee for Languages, and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). He is currently President of ACTFL and a frequent workshop presenter.

KATG Topic: Ideas for Level III and IV Classes
Planning Level III and IV high school classes can be challenging, especially when both levels are combined in one class. Textbook? Supplemental materials? Teach groups together, or separately? All those attending are encouraged to share their ideas and bring materials that have been useful.
 
Sunflower Chapter AATSP: business meeting and activities, to be announced.
